Julie Garrett

Well, not only was Helen Keller a great advocate for people with disabilities, she was also a radical communist and socialist. She felt like the issues she was seeing -- people getting hurt at work, getting sick from unsanitary working and living conditions, etc. -- were broad social issues that needed political solutions. You hear a lot about her work as an advocate, but not her political work. She was a very passionate, intense, dedicated person. Hmmm. Who does she remind you of?
