Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger in the long run is no safer than exposure...
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.
-Helen Keller
Well, not only was Helen Keller a great advocate for people with disabilities, she was also a radical communist and socialist. She felt like the issues she was seeing -- people getting hurt at work, getting sick from unsanitary working and living conditions, etc. -- were broad social issues that needed political solutions. You hear a lot about her work as an advocate, but not her political work. She was a very passionate, intense, dedicated person. Hmmm. Who does she remind you of?
